It began, as great things often do, with an obsession. The Montecristo Bardstown cigar is the result of a collaboration between two icons in their industry. On one side is Montecristo, a brand that’s spent nearly 90 years building its reputation on quality cigars. On the other, Bardstown Bourbon Company, one of Kentucky’s most thriving modern companies known for blending world class bourbon in extra aged fashion. Together, they set out to create a cigar that reflects their shared philosophy; creating something that rewards anyone who tries it.
Montecristo has been around since 1935, originally founded in Havana by Alonzo Menendez and Jose “Pepin” Manuel Garcia. Just a few years later, they acquired the H. Upmann factory, bringing another historic name under their umbrella. This move positioned Montecristo as one of Cuba’s most widely distributed cigars by the early 1940s. Today Montecristo cigars are made in Cuba as well as most of the production taking place in the Dominican Republic. Most of what you’ll find in the United States come from La Romana in the Dominican Republic rolled by Altadis. To this day, the prestigious Montecristo brand creates cigars that made the brand a benchmark in the first place.
The collaboration with Bardstown Bourbon Company meant merging with the best of both worlds and meeting the demands of modern-day smokers. Both brands work with aging, timing, and balance at the center of what they do. So, building a cigar that reflects those shared values made sense. The result is a profile that is shaped by two crafts that know how to develop flavor and showcase what they do best. The cigar is covered in a well-fermented, oil-kissed wrapper and extra-aged fillers that are selected for flavor and performance. The fillers are 100% Nicaraguan puro that deliver notes of oak, spice, and sweetness.
Montecristo Bardstown made its debut at our own Casa de Montecristo Tampa on March 28, 2025. It was introduced during an intimate and private event where guests were given the opportunity to experience the blend in a setting built to enjoy cigars at your pace.
This cigar is in limited production and is only available while supplies last. If you’re curious to see what happens when two respected names bring their strengths together, stop in at your local Casa de Montecristo cigar lounge or order online to experience it for yourself.
