After a dramatic final day at the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews, we’ve decided to put pegs to turf and cigars to mouth in our latest competition. We’re giving you and three guests the chance to perfect your swing and immerse yourself in golfing heaven with a trip to the World Golf Village in historic St. Augustine, Florida.
Guaranteed to be the greatest round of golf you and your lucky friends have ever played, the prize includes 18 holes on one of the two championship courses – the Slammer & Squire or the King & Bear. The latter was co-designed by golfing legends Arnold Palmer (“The King”) and Jack Nicklaus (“The Bear”). Set among pristine lakes and 200-year-old oak trees, it measures out at 7,279 yards and is often called a “drivers course” – a nod to the hitting power of its co-designers.
The Slammer and Squire isn’t in bad company either, as that’s named after fellow World Golf Hall of Fame members Sam Snead (“The Slammer”) and Gene Sarazen (The Squire”). Boasting 14 major triumphs between them, the designer Bobby Weed consulted Sarazen and Snead to produce a scenic course highlighting the region’s wild, unspoiled woodland areas and natural beauty.
It also offers fantastic views of the World Golf Hall of Fame – another fascinating part of the village you’ll get to experience. Learn all about the history of golf, its most illustrious players, and its greatest contributors through a wealth of golf exhibits, interactive storytelling, works of art, audio, video, and photography.
